The first weekend of July, I took a train to Åndalsnes and back to Trondheim. Åndalsnes is a very small city by Romsdalsfjord. The train ride from Dombås to Åndalsnes with the Rauma train is one of the most famous ones in Norway and offers extraordinary views of the Norwegian landscape. The train stops so that the passengers can take photos of the prettiest bridges and falls and the Troll wall, the tallest vertical rock face in Europe. I was lucky enough with the weather. It was a sunny and warm day, perfect for a coffee by the fjord and a moose burger. Then it was time to go back. The train ride was not as tiring as I imagined and certainly less tiring than a car ride. I would definitely recommend this nice day trip for anyone who has a day to spare in Trondheim, or as part of a larger trip (one doesn’t have to go back the same way, but can spend the night in Molde, which is a short bus ride from Åndalsnes, or Kristiansund and then take the boat back to Trondheim).
What was the most spectacular train ride of your life? (This was mine!)
