Make-up summer essentials 2015

After last week’s post about my summer beauty essentials, this week it’s time to tell you all about my make up favorites. Here’s what’s in my summer beauty bag…

This year has been the year of foundation. Between founding the perfect foundation for me and testing out others, I’ve grown my collection that now hosts four different foundations. I’ve decided to use them up and end up with the one that I think suits me best. But I can’t make myself wear any type of base in the summer. When it’s 30-40 degrees out day and night, foundation makes me feel like I’m melting. I’ve therefore decided to follow the Lisa Eldridge way and only apply a light concealer to brighten my under eyes and conceal any small spots or blemishes. For the past few months I’ve been using Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circle Treatment Concealer by Maybelline alone (in the summer) or with foundation (in Norway) and it works like a charm.

For the summer, I’m a huge fan of blue and green shades. I’ve found out that drawing a blue or green line under my eyes, paired with a brown smudged line on the upper lash line, looks very fresh and modern when paired with a bright lip. For this I use Smart Eye Pencils by Erre Due. I have the colors 01 (black), 02 (brown), 04 (blue) and 07 (green). The former two have been discontinued and I am very sad about it, as they were my favorite eye pencils (especially the purple one that I’m out of and has also been discontinued). They’re waterproof and so easy to apply. They’re also automatic, so there’s no need to bring a sharpener along. Please bring them back! For more color, I’ve been using a Long Lasting Stick Eyeshadow in Pearly Cornflower Blue (no 47). It’s super blendable and once it sets, it doesn’t move. One of the best cheap stick eyeshadows out there (I have more colors for my winter make ups and I love them all!). For a more subtle look, I use Jeweled Eye Pencil in Antique by GloMinerals either as a smudged pencil or as an eyeshadow. I also have an Eye Shadow Quartet by IsaDora in Muddy Nudes. They’re great for a no eye make-up, make-up look. I use one of the shades with my Real Techniques Deluxe Crease brush to give some definition to my crease and another shade as a base with my hand and I’m good to go. Lastly, I add some mascara. I apply one of the shades with my I’m currently going through a tube of Lash Doubling Mascara by Clinique.

I’m not really into contouring, but I like how the Mineralize Skinfinish powder by MAC in Dark looks below my cheekbones, blended very loosely with the Real Techniques Blush brush. I combine it with Blushing Blush Powder Blush in Precious Posy by Clinique that I apply with the Real Techniques contour brush (I know it should be the other way round). The combination makes me look very fresh and healthy.

I was always scared to do anything with my eyebrows, I don’t even pluck them (apart from the hairs that are obviously outside my eyebrows). But this year was a make up revolution year for me, so I bought the Eyebrow Shadow kit by H&M and the Brow Drama Sculpting Brow Mascara in Medium Brown by Maybelline to fill them and set them in place. I use the shadows with my Real Techniques brow brush with a very light hand, unless I want to look like Cara Delevigne. No problem with that, if that’s what you’re going for though…

I’m definitely not savvy in the lips department. I can’t go on vacation without my favorite lipstick by Sephora, Cream Lip Stain in Always Red (paired with Precision Lip Pencil in Geranium Red by Kiko). I recently bought it in another, very summery shade, Strawberry Kissed. I can wear this every day and even kiss and drink without any worry, but for the days I don’t feel like wearing a bold lip, I have Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm by Clinique in Curvy Candy, a beautiful healthy pink. Whenever I’m in the mood for a nude lip, I keep Mocha by Mac close by. It’s a warm nude, perfect on my medium summer skin tone, an otherwise winter-y shade.
