Here’s another one of Jamie’s recipes that I decided to tweak a bit. In this sausage gnocchi recipe, Jamie calls for store-bought gnocchi, but I wanted to try to make them myself. It was my first attempt in making gnocchi at home and here’s how it all went down.
For the gnocchi, I followed this recipe by Gordon Ramsay for homemade gnocchi. But if you’re more of a visual person, then I suggest you watch this video where Lidia Bastianich makes gnocchi. Even though I have some experience making dough for bread, I missed the point with this one and left it a bit more wet than it should be. I should have added more flour based on the feeling of the dough, but I decided to follow the recipe instead. Next time, I’ll follow my instinct.
That being said, the gnocchi didn’t turn out bad. Next time, I’ll also make sure to do the fork trick that Lidia does to give them some texture as well. Learn from the pros.
Another mistake I made was using the wrong type of sausage. Because I can’t find the perfect sausage needed for this recipe, next time I would go for minced meat instead. However, I felt that in general gnocchi need a simpler sauce, like butter or tomato sauce. Then it really becomes the star of the dish. So I want to try these recipes as well in the future.
For the salad, I used spinach in the place of mixed greens, partly because that was what I could find in my very Norwegian supermarket and party because kale and I don’t go very well together. The salad turned out delicious anyway.
All in all, I quite liked this dish, but I would also like to try different sauces for my gnocchi. Will I try this again? No, not really.
